Liard First Nation signed a Community Committee Agreement with the First Nation School Board on July 5th, 2024.
Community Committee Agreements are flexible to change, adapt, and grow in time. They outline which powers of the Education Act are shared between the Community Committee and the school board.
Community committees bring the FNSB’s org-chart to life, ensuring the Learners are centered in all of the school’s initiatives.
Community Committees empower the community to guide its own school.
The Watson Lake Community Committee is the governing body for Watson Lake Secondary School and for Johnson Elementary School. Together with the First Nation School Board, they share authorities and responsibilities over the management and operation of the schools.
They are representatives of, and accountable to, the community of Watson Lake including the Liard First Nation, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, residents and citizens, parents, families - and above all - the Learners of the both schools.
